The First Baptist Church of Pitman is a community of nurturing followers of Jesus Christ. You find us in many places. We are in the schools, the banks, the local businesses. You can find us on a soccer field, in the kitchen or in the hospital. And on Sunday mornings, you can find us at 30 North Broadway in Pitman, worshipping the Lord who has given us life to share. Everywhere we are, we are seeking to live out our mission. You can find our mission statement in the column to the right. Notice that it is active and when we live it, people's lives are transformed. God's grace (read unconditional love) pours into us. SITTING BEFORE GOD
 
Then King David went in and sat before the Lord.
(II Samuel 7:18, RSV)
 
David sat. This may be the single most critical act that David ever did, the action that put him out of action—more critical than killing Goliath, more critical than honoring Saul (his enemy) as God’s anointed, more critical than bringing the Ark to Jerusalem.
 
By sitting down, David renounced royal initiative, abdicated kingly authority, got himself out of the driver’s seat, and deliberately and reverently placed himself before God his King.
 
When David sat down before God, it was … trading in his plans for God’s plans.
